Privacy Policy
Effective: July 20, 2026
Current operator: Jason W. Wilder, British Columbia, Canada ("KindaFree", "we", "us", or "our").
KindaFree helps adults discover plans, apply or join, meet in person, communicate, review one another, and see relevant Sponsored Plans and Related Offers. This policy explains what information KindaFree handles, where it comes from, why it is used, when it is shared, and what choices you have.
1. Scope and age
This policy applies to the KindaFree iOS app, KindaFree websites, support, safety and moderation operations, creator referrals, and business-partner services that link to it. KindaFree is for people 18 and older. Do not create an account or submit personal information if you are under 18.
2. Information we collect and how we use it
Account and sign-in information
We receive account identifiers, email address and sign-in status when you sign in with Apple, Google, or email. We use this information to create and secure your account, restore sessions, provide support, prevent duplicate or abusive accounts, and communicate about the service.
Phone verification
We collect your mobile number and verification status when you complete SMS verification. Verification codes are handled through our authentication provider. We use phone verification to protect participation, reduce fraud and abuse, and support account recovery or number-change workflows. Your phone number is not displayed publicly.
Profile and eligibility information
We collect your first name, birthdate, age, sex/gender selection, About Me text, primary profile photo, and optional Extra Photo. Birthdate is used to confirm age eligibility and calculate the age shown where the app says it will be shown; your full birthdate is not displayed publicly. Sex/gender can be displayed on Host Details and used when a person deliberately chooses a host-gender filter. Profile information helps people understand who is hosting and supports safety, matching, moderation, and support.
Photos and automated safety screening
Before your first photo upload, KindaFree asks for permission to send photos to Google Cloud Vision for automated safety screening. Uploaded primary profile photos, Extra Photos, and plan photos remain private unless approved. We use SafeSearch results and, where needed, authorized human review to detect sexual, violent, hateful, deceptive, illegal, or otherwise prohibited images. Rejected or unresolved images are not published. You can cancel before uploading, replace or remove photos using available app controls, revoke future processing consent by contacting Privacy, or delete your account.
Plans and participation
We collect plan titles, descriptions, images, date and time, meeting-place information, estimated participant cost, currency, vibe, who the host is looking for, age range, capacity, join mode, and plan status. We also collect applications, approvals, rejections, matches, confirmations, attendance and cancellation outcomes. We use this information to publish eligible plans, enforce tier and capacity rules, operate matching, prevent race conditions and duplicate participation, send coordination notifications, calculate trust signals, maintain History, and resolve safety or support issues.
Location
With iOS permission, KindaFree can use device location to show nearby plans and help a host choose a meeting place. Location permission alone does not publish your precise location. Approximate location may be used for distance filtering and displayed as an approximate area. A host can deliberately choose to publish a precise meeting place to browsing users; the app must clearly present that choice before publication. Location and distance may also be used to select locally relevant Sponsored Plans or Related Offers. We do not provide a private precise location to advertisers for their independent use.
Chats and notifications
We collect chat messages and delivery-related information so matched participants can coordinate, so notification settings work, and so reported conversations can be investigated. Authorized staff may access messages when needed for a report, safety review, legal request, fraud or abuse prevention, or support. Push tokens, notification preferences, delivery status and deep-link information are used to deliver and troubleshoot notifications. Notification previews are designed to avoid unnecessary private content.
Reviews and trust signals
We collect reliability and satisfaction ratings and objective participation events such as completed matched plans, no-shows, cancellations, confirmation responsiveness, reports and blocks. We use these inputs to operate reviews, Dependability and Join Instantly eligibility. Raw report and block counts are not public ratings. Lower-confidence safety signals are reviewed or weighted carefully; confirmed serious or repeated safety findings may directly restrict features or participation.
Reports, blocks, moderation and appeals
We collect reports about users, plans, photos, messages or commercial content; blocking relationships; evidence submitted with a report; moderation decisions; staff notes; enforcement status; appeals; and audit records. We use this information to protect users, investigate concerns, prevent blocked people from seeing or contacting one another where required, remove content, restrict accounts, respond to appeals, detect repeat abuse, and document authorized staff actions.
Subscriptions and entitlements
Apple processes Plus and Pro purchases. KindaFree receives product identifiers, signed transaction information, subscription status, renewal or expiration information, and entitlement state. We use it to unlock the correct tier, restore purchases, prevent entitlement fraud, provide subscription support, and maintain billing-related records. KindaFree does not receive your full payment-card number from Apple.
Sponsored Plans, Related Offers and business interactions
We collect which eligible sponsored or offer content is selected for a session, impressions, taps, external-link opens, QR or redemption events, campaign identifiers, rough location or distance, date/time context, and aggregate inferred plan categories where allowed. We use this information to select relevant offers, enforce advertising frequency, prevent duplicate or fraudulent redemption, bill or report to partners, and measure campaign performance. Partners receive campaign and aggregate results needed to operate the offer; they do not receive private chats, reports, blocks, birthdates, phone numbers, or private precise location from KindaFree. An external business may collect information under its own privacy policy after you deliberately open its site or redeem directly with it.
Referrals and Creator Program
We collect referral codes, attribution timestamps, qualifying actions, referred-account eligibility, creator or organization application details, commission status, fraud checks, payout-related status and audit information. We use it to attribute eligible referrals, award member benefits or commissions, prevent self-referral and abuse, satisfy tax or accounting obligations, and show privacy-safe aggregate performance. Creators do not receive the identity, profile, activity, subscription history or private data of referred members from KindaFree.
Device, network, security and support information
We may collect device and app version, operating system, locale, network state, App Check or integrity signals, authentication events, IP address and request metadata processed by our infrastructure, push-token state, error details, rate-limit events, security logs, support requests and related correspondence. We use this information to run the service, diagnose failures, protect accounts and infrastructure, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce limits, investigate incidents, and maintain auditability. We do not use this information to create an unrelated cross-app advertising profile.
3. How information is collected
- Directly from you: information you type, select, upload, publish, report, send, purchase, or submit to support.
- From your device: location only with iOS permission, device and network context, notifications, integrity signals and app diagnostics.
- From other users: applications, messages, reviews, reports, blocks and participation outcomes involving you.
- From service providers: authentication status, photo-screening results, subscription transactions, notification delivery and infrastructure security information.
- Derived by KindaFree: age from birthdate, distance from locations, tier entitlement, eligibility, plan categories, Dependability, moderation state, fraud indicators and privacy-safe campaign aggregates.
4. Service providers and other recipients
We disclose only the information reasonably needed for the purpose described:
- Google: Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, App Check, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Google Sign-In, and Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch. Google processes account, content, device, security, notification and photo data as needed to provide those services.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, StoreKit and App Store subscription services, Apple Push Notification service, MapKit and iOS location controls. Apple processes identifiers, transactions, notifications, map requests and device permissions under Apple's terms and privacy practices.
- Other KindaFree users: information intentionally displayed on profiles, plans, applications, matches, chats and reviews according to app rules and privacy settings.
- Sponsored and offer partners: approved campaign content, redemption information and privacy-safe campaign reporting; private member data is not provided for independent targeting.
- Creator or referral participants: their own codes, status and aggregate performance, not referred-member identities or private activity.
- Authorized contractors and professional advisers: only where needed for hosting, security, support, moderation, legal, tax, accounting, insurance or corporate operations, subject to appropriate duties.
- Authorities or safety recipients: where required by law, valid legal process, or reasonably necessary to prevent serious harm, fraud, abuse or security incidents.
- A successor operator: if the service or business is reorganized, incorporated, financed, sold or transferred, subject to this policy and applicable law.
5. Sponsored-content targeting
KindaFree targets Sponsored Plans and Related Offers using the context of the service, such as the date being browsed, rough area or distance, time, approved plan categories, offer eligibility, age or legal-age restrictions, and campaign frequency. We do not disclose private plan text, chats, reports, blocks, phone numbers, birthdates or private precise location to partners for targeting. Alcohol-related content must respect the applicable legal age and approved jurisdiction rules.
6. Retention and deletion
We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes above, to provide an active account, and to meet legal, billing, tax, safety, moderation, fraud-prevention, abuse-prevention, dispute and security obligations.
- Active profile, plan, participation, chat and preference information is kept while needed to provide the service and user-facing History.
- Pending and rejected images are kept only while needed for screening, human review, appeals, incident handling and scheduled cleanup. Approved images remain while active or until replaced, removed, no longer referenced, or deleted where permitted.
- Subscription and transaction records are retained as needed for entitlement, fraud, accounting, tax, dispute and legal obligations.
- Reports, blocks, moderation cases, appeals, security events and staff audit logs may be retained after public content or an account is removed when needed to protect users, document decisions, enforce bans, prevent repeat abuse, or meet legal obligations.
- Referral and commercial records are retained as needed for attribution, payment, tax, fraud, audit and contract obligations.
- Backups and logs are rotated or deleted under operational schedules, but a deleted item may remain in a restricted backup until that backup expires or is securely overwritten.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it, de-identify it, or restrict it from ordinary use.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: use Edit Profile and Settings, or contact Privacy for access or correction that cannot be completed in the app.
- Location: change KindaFree's location permission in the iOS Settings app. You can also choose an approximate meeting area instead of deliberately publishing a precise meeting place.
- Notifications: change notification categories in KindaFree and system notification permission in iOS Settings.
- Photo screening: cancel before uploading. Contact Privacy to revoke future photo-processing consent, and use replace, remove, or account-deletion controls for existing photos.
- Commercial content: use available settings and report controls. Opening an external business link is optional.
- Block and report: use in-app controls to block a user or report a user, plan, photo, message or commercial item.
- Delete your account: in KindaFree, go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. Participation and profile visibility are disabled immediately. Data not required for legal, billing, safety, moderation, fraud prevention or abuse prevention is deleted. Apple subscriptions must be canceled separately through your Apple Account settings.
- Privacy request or complaint: email privacy@kindafree.com. We may need to verify your identity before disclosing or changing account data.
8. Security
We use authentication, phone verification, App Check, role-based staff access, server-authoritative writes, private pending image storage, encryption in transit, provider security controls, rate limits and audit logs. No system is perfectly secure. Protect your device and sign-in credentials, and report suspected compromise to security@kindafree.com.
9. International processing
Service providers may process information outside your province or country, including in Canada and the United States. Information may therefore be subject to the laws of those locations. We use provider and contractual safeguards appropriate to the service and applicable law.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as KindaFree changes. We will update the effective date and provide in-app notice or require renewed acceptance when a change is material or consent is required.
